Verified Breeder
At Exotic Pet Find, responsible breeding practices and transparency is highly valued.
We have as a main goal, to educate potential exotic pet owners of the dangers of pet scams and the importance of buying your exotic pet from a verified breeder.
Achieving this was made possible through our guidelines called the Exotic Pet Find Code Of Conduct.
Breeders with the verified badge on their listings simply means. Our team has done extensive research on the breeder. Ensuring the breeder follows ethical breeding practices, compliance with state laws regarding the breeding of some specific exotic pets, and license verification.
Working personally with each breeder, helps us to ensure that every breeder follows our code of conduct.
We understand that reaching a consensus on the ideal breeding program can be challenging, and we do not claim to have achieved absolute perfection. However, we have strived to create a framework that encourages responsible breeders to be transparent about their practices and enables potential owners to understand what to look for in a responsible breeder.
Our code of conduct is divided into 6 sections. It enables the buyer to understand what every breeder listed on our website must be compliant with.
Breeding & Welfare Every breeder must prioritize the welfare of their breeding pair. Ensuring that they pay attention to the healthcare, grooming as well as disease control. A focus on nutrition is also an important factor. We require each breeder to give us a detailed report on their breeding program.
Health Practices
Breeders must be well-educated on common health concerns. They must also have a vet who carefully follows up on their pets.
Home Environment
Raising your pets in good sanitary condition is highly important. Every breeder must have an outstanding result on this. We usually prefer breeders who raise their pets in their home environment.
Physical Condition
Breeders must strive to raise pets in a well socialized environment. Making adaptation of the pets into the buyer’s home easy.
Feeding
All pets must receive adequate nutrition. The breeder must give us a complete guide on how they ensure their pets get the best nutrition.
Documentation & Records
The breeder must provide us with vet records. From this, we can easily tell their commitment to raising the best pets.
Breeding and Welfare Practices
Breeders commit to the following practices regarding breeding and welfare:
– Not breeding females until they reach the age of maturity.
– Limiting the number of litters per year and per female to avoid overbreeding.
– Ensuring that each female has sufficient time to recover between litters.
Not using methods to promote overbreeding or shorten the gestation period.
- Avoiding inbreeding and using healthy, unrelated parent animals.
- Ensuring adequate vaccinations and veterinary care.
- Ensuring proper socialization and exposure to different environments, sounds, and people.
- Ensuring proper nutrition and care f
- Complying with all applicable state laws and regulations regarding breed breeding.
